Maple butcher-block bench top is kiln dried, electronically glued, then cured and sanded smooth. Finished with a penetrating mineral oil protectant. You can't buy a better all-purpose bench top. Tops must be oiled on all surfaces every 1-2 weeks depending on use or conditions for up keep.
Work Surface Cleaning:

The shipping damage and a f_____d up corner was not something I expected. It was a let down for sure. Overall I'd buy this again because it's a real cost saver over the big hardware chains and small mom and pop kitchen stores. If you dont have the ability to do some work to remove likely damage than steer clear. Otherwise I'd recommend this countertop/benchtop. -

Arrived quickly, exactly as promised. A few dings but for 25% of the price of the butcher block counter top website I can't complain. I gave the edges a quick sand, sanded off the branded logo, and it is now a great top to a kitchen island ! I highly recommend! -

Good product, poor packing nd shipping. It arrived with 2 corners bashed in, but I thought that the notching that I needed to do would remove the damaged portions. Not quite, and there were 2 other places dinged on the sides that I missed. Very poor packing. -

I want to use this to replace an existing island in my kitchen. It is the same width, and the countertop extends out on one side by 10-12 inches to serve as a bar top. 1.Are the glued joints strong enough to support people leaning on this overhang or would I need to build a base out of plywood first? 2. I would need to trim the length and round the other,how does it hold up to cutting? This should not be an issue, but i thought I would see if anyone else had cut it and how it worked out.

Hello Greg, unfortunately these tops do not have a listed weight capacity and it will depend upon the base it is placed on. They should be supported with an overhang greater than 8 inches. The units are not designed for field modification as you may encounter metal fasteners in the joints. If modifying, you must avoid the joints by at least 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Can I stain this top a darker color? What steps will need to be taken? Will the mineral oil finish have to be sanded off?
