The photos of this item show a rectangular shaped product but the specifications read 2x2 - is this a square panel or is it rectangle ?

This heat panel is one inch (1") thick. The surface mount frame is 3" thick. Does this mean that the heater placed inside the frame will project 3" down from the ceiling surface?
