Great Butcher Block

Bought this for an island that I am building for my wife. She loved the way that it looks in the stock photo but in person she loves it even more!!!!

Nice bench top

This product is overall an excellent value though I was a little disappointed that there were some flaws in the surface and slight splintering on the edges that required some sanding though since this is being used as a workbench these were not too much of an issue. I have a similar top that I ordered several years ago and is used on my kitchen island and the finish quality is excellent.

Monster Bench Top!!

Your review: Global distributes the John Boos butcher block tops and in case anyone needs/wants to know, these are simply the best out there. This particular top is a monster at 1 3/4" thick and will stand up to virtually any punishment!

Pretty but scratched

Your review: Plan to use it as a desk top for industrial desk. Liked the color variations and the sturdiness, but a scratch right in the middle...it may sand out. Probably occurred from a staple (some staples in rough side of the one I received) on another bench top. Plan to stain it dark...hope it turns out like I imagine.

table tops are strong

Your review: I have been using the work bench tops for about 5 years now and have not had any problems with them at all. They are strong and can withhold an extreme ammount of weight and force. I have purchased 150 - 200 per year and no complaints from me.

Can I stain this top a darker color? What steps will need to be taken? Will the mineral oil finish have to be sanded off?

Answer This Question

I recently purchased this product and did notice the fact that it has a mineral oil finish and has to be oiled on both sides at least every month. My question is can I apply several coats of a sealer to completely seal the wood so I wont have to do the oiling. Since this is a workbench top, oil would really mess up any wood project that you might be working on.

Are your maple work bench tops made in USA or imported?

I was about ready to install this top on a assembly table I made and noticed that the top is warped. The long length is convex slightly. How would you recommend I try to correct this since I can't use it as an assembly top unless it is dead flat. I thought of trying to sand it and even gluing a sandwich of MDF or plywood on the top and bottom. It would ruin the beautiful look of the top but I need something that is flat. Any suggestions?
